Paperboy – Never judge a place by its cover

Posted on March 20, 2014 by Karin Shibata Posted in Breakfast - Brunch, Paris Coffee Shops .

Paperboy !!! I feel so excited to discover this new place in the neighbourhood.

Paperboy has all the ingredients of the latest Parisian food trend.

1) OUT = A cool, modern design looking storefront. Black is the color of these last years.

paperboy

2) IN = Quality products: Demory beer, jam from La chambre aux confitures.

paperboy_3

3) Cozy interior and American products.

paperboy_2

4) Home-made pastries.paperboy_cakes

BUT

Typical French welcoming !!!!

“Hello“

“I would like a latte please“

“Only one latte?…. Errrr… And you want to drink it here ? “

(I just had lunch at Sassotondo ! Yes it is Sunday and I keep my habit and I wanted to try this new place to test it fully later)

“Yes is it possible ?“

“Eeerr…. Then at the counter only…“

The counter is nice but as it seems to bother them so much, I decide to take it to go….

Of course, I can totally understand that a restaurant does not want to take a table for a latte at lunch time…

But it is 3 pm, the brunch time seems to be finished and the place is new and empty !!!

Never judge a coffee by its cover

paperboy_latte

Latte
3,50 €

Unfortunately the coffee is too watered. The taste is insipide, the foam had no consistency at all…

It is bad !!!

I really hate to write review like this about a place I have not tested fully, but I would not try the brunch there as I planned too.

It is 23€ and I will keep for another place.

I would be very interested to have some feedbacks of persons who tried… Hope good and yummy…

paperboy_logo

The logo is as cute as the place !!!
Very disappointed…

Posted on March 12, 2014 by Karin Shibata Posted in Paris Coffee Shops .

Rêves d’Abyssinie is a convivial coffee shop in rue Saint-Denis where you can drink, eat and discover quality products.

La rue Saint-Denis had a bad reputation but is recently becoming trendy…

Interesting shops are opening…

A café at the counter is 1,80 € ! THE BEST QUALITY PRICE IN PARIS !!!

Coffees are made by an excellent barista.

Chung-Leng Tran was a photographer and became barista by passion for coffee.

He is 2012 France Champion of filter coffee. He recently got the 3rd title at 2014 World Brewers Cup in France.

Simple lunches made with fresh quality products…

I met Cyril at the time he was a mixologist at Grazie. He has a love for food and fresh products.

I really advise you to taste his home-made quality French food.

Cyril calls his food “simple” but he makes his own mashed apple sauce to go with a Alléosse cheese (a famous  cheese ripener).

reves_d_abyssinie_sandwich

Sandwich: Livarot cheese from Alléose with home-made mashed apple sauce.

You have to know that most of the sandwiches you find in French bakeries/”boulangerie” are made with industrial dough bread and supermarket cheese or products.

He also makes soups, ginger lemonade and this addictive desert !!!!

Cyril also have very good quality Japanese and Chinese teas served in traditional tea pots !!!

reves_d_abyssinie_tea

Prices are as smooth as the milk foam. A place to discover…

To finish, a little bit of history….The logo and the name Rêves d’Abyssinie tells the story of how the coffee was discovered… Around 850 AD, some goats were seen dancing after eating some berries of a bush… This mysterious berry could be an energiser ! Coffee was discovered !!!

My heart is in a nordic mood today.

After arriving from Copenhagen, I directly go to the Finish Institute in Paris for the inauguration party of Coutume Café’s new space.

In the heart of the latin quarter, you can take a specialty coffee break.

La Caféothèque – Summer 2013 Iced Specialities

Posted on August 13, 2013 by Karin Shibata Posted in Paris Coffee Shops .

My little besetting sin of the moment is La Caféothèque‘s delicious summer treat.

A coffee of the day + a scoop of ice for 4€, in a cosy warm place (there are fans all over the place though 🙂 )

affogato_cafeotheque_trio

Funny the coffee of the day was also Chitul-Tirol of Cobán !

You have a different coffee every day which can be matched to an artisanal ice cream flavor (coffee, chocolate, salted butter caramel, lemon … ).

Yeeheee!! Sa many combinations of  tastes to try.

For my part, I could not resist the opportunity to make an affogato.

In Italy, the « affogato al caffé » (literally “drowned in the cafe” in Italian) is served at the end of a meal. It is a scoop of ice cream on which you pay a hot espresso.

It makes 2x(2 in 1): dessert/coffee served and hot/cold.

I love this specialty. Traditionally, I think it is a creamy ice cream vanilla or fiordilatte which is used to contrast with the strong espresso.

But I always opted for the tone-on-tone with the wonderful coffee ice cream. (So Yeeepeee my a…:) )

This is because the recipe of the coffee ice cream was created by La Caféothèque with their Grand Cru Chitul-Tirol of Guatemala (Best coffee 2004 of the Specialty Coffee Association of America).

Chitul-Tirol-1024x1024

Some travelling & culture…

The grand cru Chitul-Tirol comes from Cobán. Located in the north of Guatémala, it is a fresh and moist mountainous region.

Known for its Cloud and Rainforest as well as its lush orchids, the coffee of this  region carries flavors reflecting this environment. A delicate bouquet of chocolate, honey and pepper, which makes it a perfect after meal coffee.

This explains the judicious choice of La Caféothèque for this exclusive creation and why I have it each time. 🙂

iced_latte_cafeotheque.jpg

The Iced latte, another summer speciality

And of course a pack of coffee for the week!

And of course a pack of coffee for the week!

GRAINS – Café Coutume x Bières Demory Paris Collaboration

Posted on July 25, 2013 by Karin Shibata Posted in Paris Coffee Shops, Paris Restaurants .

grains_coffee

CAFE COUTUME and BIERES DEMORY PARIS collaboration gives birth to GRAINS…

An authentique parisian chic bistrot-bar-coffee for a breakfast, a coffee, a cool parisian beer, tasty meals and even cocktails… All made with quality, ethic and seasonnal products.

Cherche l'erreur!

Cherche l’erreur…

L’ASTROBLONDE, bière blonde type Pils allemand, 4,8%, 27 IBU

A suivre…
