Moko Moko Mokolet

Posted on August 21, 2013 by Karin Shibata Posted in Blog, Japanese, Junk, Soda .

moko moko mokolet_heartA crazy idea to make a soda to drink in a mini toilet which you can customize with stickers. Appetizing huh… ?!? It’s only flavored powder and water making a foamy sweet drink.

“Moko moko” is a visual onomatopoeic word, expressing a smoky or fluffy texture. Very sharp, isn’t it?

The traditionnal « nagashi sōmen » is a very thin noodle put to cool down in a bamboo flume with running water.

The 2013 version comes with a icebergs, polar bears , pinguins and a fountain… Isn’t it really crazy?

kabaya_guimauveGuimauve Mango Kiwi  – ギモーヴ マンゴー&キウイ

French guimauve the Japanese way becomes mango and kiwi flavored. It is written fluffy and glutinous like a mochi…

I like the little french flag on this product whith sounds quite exotic. 🙂

An unusual japanese sweet with muscat flavor. It is a capsule of gummy with jelly inside.

I admit that I have been seduced by the cute packaging.

Posted on August 16, 2013 by Karin Shibata Posted in Ice Cream | Glace .

Pierre Hermé’s iced summer 2013 creation, exchanges by sweet vows, ice cream and his famous macaroon.

pierre_herme_glaces_au_macaron_head

Ice Cream + Macaroon = Macaroon Ice Cream
(This was a complex equation 🙂 )

The ice “Infiniment” (Infinitly) is sepierre_herme_glaces_au_macaron.jpgt with pieces of macaroons and touches of almond paste of the corresponding ice cream flavor to accentuates the taste. They exist in buckets or in « Miss Gla Gla » (Miss Fro Fro… 😉 ) an ice cream sandwich made with macaroon.

The ice creams are excellent. The association of textures are more evident to feel in the ice cream bucket than in Miss Gla Gla which already have their hulls in macaroons. It is a little unfortunate that the effect of the texture is not more contrasted. But, logically, how could a macaroon remain really crispy in an ice cream? Unless… It is not a macaroon…:)

pierre_herme_glaces_au_macaron_affiche.jpg

pierre_herme_glaces_au_macaron_citron.jpgThe Infinitely Lemon. My favorite. Of course…(It’s rare lemon wins over chooclate though) I love the way that Pierre Herme works his lemons. It is a fresh sorbet with the softness of an ice cream. Is the secret, the lemon flavored almond ?

L’Infiniment Citron.

pierre_herme_glaces_au_macaron_chocolat.jpgThe Infinitely Chocolate. Chocolate, chocolate, chocolate… Chocolate being (as for 90% of girls) to me a real obsession, this is the first perfume that I have tasted. It could have been more strong in cacao, for my taste, but the ice cream is yummy with an enveloping texture.

L’Infiniment Chocolat.

pierre_herme_glaces_au_macaron_pistache.jpgThe Infinitely Pistachio. Pistachio is not a perfume I will run the 100M for… I love pistachio nuts especially the persians, but I find that in pastry, the flavor can become very haunting or worse, chemical. But, this creation has very natural and pleasant tastes.

L’Infiniment Pistache.

The Infinitely Vanilla. I have not tasted this one, the test is incomplete.

L’Infiniment Vanille.

Posted on August 13, 2013 by Karin Shibata Posted in Paris Coffee Shops .

My little besetting sin of the moment is La Caféothèque‘s delicious summer treat.

A coffee of the day + a scoop of ice for 4€, in a cosy warm place (there are fans all over the place though 🙂 )

affogato_cafeotheque_trio

Funny the coffee of the day was also Chitul-Tirol of Cobán !

You have a different coffee every day which can be matched to an artisanal ice cream flavor (coffee, chocolate, salted butter caramel, lemon … ).

Yeeheee!! Sa many combinations of  tastes to try.

For my part, I could not resist the opportunity to make an affogato.

In Italy, the « affogato al caffé » (literally “drowned in the cafe” in Italian) is served at the end of a meal. It is a scoop of ice cream on which you pay a hot espresso.

It makes 2x(2 in 1): dessert/coffee served and hot/cold.

I love this specialty. Traditionally, I think it is a creamy ice cream vanilla or fiordilatte which is used to contrast with the strong espresso.

But I always opted for the tone-on-tone with the wonderful coffee ice cream. (So Yeeepeee my a…:) )

This is because the recipe of the coffee ice cream was created by La Caféothèque with their Grand Cru Chitul-Tirol of Guatemala (Best coffee 2004 of the Specialty Coffee Association of America).

Chitul-Tirol-1024x1024

Some travelling & culture…

The grand cru Chitul-Tirol comes from Cobán. Located in the north of Guatémala, it is a fresh and moist mountainous region.

Known for its Cloud and Rainforest as well as its lush orchids, the coffee of this  region carries flavors reflecting this environment. A delicate bouquet of chocolate, honey and pepper, which makes it a perfect after meal coffee.

This explains the judicious choice of La Caféothèque for this exclusive creation and why I have it each time. 🙂

iced_latte_cafeotheque.jpg

The Iced latte, another summer speciality

And of course a pack of coffee for the week!

And of course a pack of coffee for the week!
